Is an All-Inclusive Cruise Worth It?
Run the real comparison, not the headline fare. On a mainstream ship a week for two typically adds a drinks package, Wi-Fi, gratuities, two or three specialty dinners and a couple of excursions on top of the cruise fare, often $1,500 to $2,500 per cabin. The lines on this page fold most of that into the fare, so a Silversea or Regent sailing that looks twice the price can land within a few hundred dollars of a balcony on a big ship once the extras are counted, with a suite, a butler and a far smaller ship thrown in. The exceptions are deliberate: Oceania's base fares are not all-inclusive (its upgraded fares are), and Virgin includes everything except alcohol.
Mainstream alternatives if you want the big-ship experience with fewer extras: MSC Yacht Club (drinks, Wi-Fi, butler, private deck), Norwegian's More at Sea packages and Celebrity's All Included fares bundle drinks, Wi-Fi and gratuities on the big ships.
Frequently Asked Questions
Regent Seven Seas is the most complete (excursions, drinks, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and flights on many fares), followed by Silversea, Seabourn and Crystal, which include drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi and specialty dining. Oceania includes Wi-Fi and specialty dining on every fare and adds drinks on upgraded fares. Virgin Voyages includes everything except alcohol.
Today’s lowest fares are in the table above, sorted cheapest first, per person with taxes and fees included. Compare them against a mainstream fare plus $1,500 to $2,500 per cabin in drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities, specialty dining and excursions, which is what those add up to on a typical week.
Mostly. Every restaurant, gratuities, Wi-Fi, group fitness classes, soft drinks and basic beverages are included; alcohol is extra, prepaid as a Bar Tab, and excursions and the spa are extra. Virgin ships are adults only.
On Regent, yes, on nearly every port call. On Silversea, on most sailings. On Seabourn, Crystal, Oceania and Virgin, excursions are extra, though Oceania’s upgraded fares carry an excursion credit. The sailing page shows the exact inclusions for the fare you choose.
Regent includes flights on many of its fares, and Silversea’s Door-to-Door fares include flights and transfers; the other lines sell air separately or as an add-on. A Cruise Manager at 1-877-733-0777 can price the sailing with and without air.
Shorter Virgin Voyages sailings and Oceania’s Caribbean itineraries carry the lowest entry fares on this page; for a true luxury all-inclusive, repositioning and shoulder-season sailings on Silversea and Seabourn are usually the best value per night. Sort the table above by price per day to see it.
