Getting to the Port of Vancouver and What to Expect
Vancouver is the classic start of an Alaska cruise. Ships sail from the Canada Place cruise terminal on the downtown waterfront, three berths under the white sails that can host up to four ships at once, straight into the Inside Passage toward Ketchikan, Juneau, Glacier Bay and Seward. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority welcomed more than 300 ship calls and over one million passengers in 2025, from Princess, Holland America, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Disney and a long list of luxury lines. Vancouver International Airport is about 30 minutes away, and the Canada Line SkyTrain stops at Waterfront Station right next to the pier.
✈ Getting there
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR)The port puts Canada Place about 30 minutes from the airport by car. The Canada Line SkyTrain runs from the airport terminal to Waterfront Station, which sits directly beside the cruise terminal, so the train is the simplest transfer in cruising.
- Driving and drop-offFollow signs for Canada Place on the downtown waterfront. The Canada Place parkade allows stops of 15 minutes or less for dropping off and picking up cruise passengers at no charge; for anything longer, take a stall and pay at the on-site machine or online.
- US border preclearanceSailings bound for Alaska clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection inside the terminal before boarding, using facial biometrics, so build that step into your arrival window.
- Baggage and hoursThe port's passenger guidance lists baggage check opening between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. on sailing days, with terminal operations running roughly 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Getting aroundCanada Place sits at the foot of downtown: Gastown, the Seawall, Stanley Park and the SkyTrain and SeaBus networks are all within a short walk.
⚓ Terminals by cruise line
Your line's documents confirm your exact terminal for sailing day.
🚗 Parking at the port
- The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority does not publish a flat daily cruise-parking rate; the price is set by Indigo Park at the machine or online booking, so check it before you drive.
- Stops of 15 minutes or less for dropping off or picking up cruise passengers are free.
- Alaska round trips and one-way sailings to Seward or Whittier leave from the same terminal; your cruise documents confirm the berth.
