Getting to the Port of Galveston and What to Expect
Galveston has been a cruise home port for more than two decades, and it is the only one in Texas. Four terminals along Harborside Drive host Royal Caribbean (Terminal 10, the world's first net-zero-energy cruise terminal), Carnival (Terminal 25), Disney (Terminal 28) and, since late 2025, MSC and Norwegian at the new Terminal 16, with Western Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries that never require a flight for Texas and Southwest cruisers. Houston Hobby is about 45 minutes away and the port runs more than 5,000 parking spaces.
✈ Getting there
- Houston Hobby Airport (HOU)The closest airport, about a 45-minute drive down I-45 South. Good for domestic flights and the easiest start to a Galveston cruise.
- George Bush Intercontinental (IAH)About 1.5 hours from the port, on the far north side of Houston. Best for international arrivals; budget extra time in Houston traffic.
- Driving inFrom the north and west, take I-45 South straight onto Galveston Island, then follow Harborside Drive to your terminal. From the east, take I-10 West to Highway 87 South and cross on the Bolivar Ferry.
- Confirm your terminal firstThe port's own advice: know whether you sail from Terminal 10, 16, 25 or 28 before you plan the drive, since parking lots are terminal-specific.
- Shuttles, rideshare and taxisFree port shuttles run from the economy lots to the terminals; Uber, Lyft and flat-rate taxis serve the port, and many cruise lines and independent companies sell Houston airport transfers.
⚓ Terminals by cruise line
Your line's documents confirm your exact terminal for sailing day.
🚗 Parking at the port
- The Port of Galveston does not publish one flat daily rate: prices vary by cruise length, by lot, and by covered versus uncovered, and prepaid online reservations cost less than paying on arrival.
- Reservations take Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, and can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before your sail date.
- ADA parking is first come, first served in every lot; all lots are lit, staffed, and patrolled 24/7 by Port Police, and the lots accommodate vehicles of all sizes.
